Where has the time gone?

Posted in Bobbin Lace, Knitting, Tatting at 12:08 pm by dianelaces

Has it really been this long since I’ve posted?  I’m appalled at myself for neglecting the blog so badly.  Actually, I haven’t been doing much this summer except reading tons of books on my Nook.

I have been working on Mom’s birthday present, but it must remain un-named and un-photographed until she receives it in October.  I’ve also been knitting a lacy little sweater for myself that only needs sewing up and finishing, so I’ll take a photo of that soon.  I did do some bobbin lace demonstrating…

Chaplin Creek Historic Site in Franklin Grove, Illinois invited me to demonstrate at their Harvest Festival on July 31-August 1.  A very nice man came and took my photo (thanks Vagabond Ed!) because I was foolish and forgot to take my camera.  It was a very hot day, but I had a nice spot under a shade tree and there was a breeze.  Quite a few people stopped to ask what I was doing, so I think I exposed bobbin lace to a lot of people who had no idea how lace was made before machines.  There was a fiber festival also that weekend and I picked up a drop spindle and some roving to attempt spinning.  I forgot my lesson as soon as I got home, so I’m going to have to work on that a bit.

I received an early birthday present from my hubby – “Up and Tat ‘Em”, a new book of tatting designs by Marilee Rockley.  I love her books.  She has such creative designs and they photographs and directions are so clear and easy to follow.  I’m already planning what I’m going to start this weekend.
